Re-assessing the Creativity Gap: How an Education for Critical and Creative Thinking has Extended from One New York School District to a Global Initiative

On November 15, 2010 in Horace Mann 152, Dr. Suzanne Choo, Dr. Alison Villanueva, and Dr. Deb Sawch, all PhDs holding in English Education, will present an eight-month long study in a top-performing New York school district (Westchester County) involving five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.

Using video shots from actual classroom observations, the educators will present their findings of how K- 12 classrooms in this district infused higher-order critical and creative thinking across the curriculum. They will then describe how the study has extended to an international study involving three other countries—Singapore, Australia and Canada. They will present the objectives, aims and initial research methods as well as opportunities for the TC community including international students to be involved in this exciting, ground-breaking study.
