Research Assistantship on the meanings of democratic education

Dr. Daniel Friedrich, Asst. Professor, Curriculum and Teaching, is seeking a Research Assistant for the 2010 – 2011 academic year. Dr. Friedrich’s research will examine the meanings of democratic education in different contexts, as related to history, philosophy, pedagogy, etc. The main focus will be in Latin America and the US. The Research Assistant will be expected to conduct extensive literature reviews both on and off-line, on efforts to bring about democratic education during the 20th century, and on the teacher education programs related to these efforts. The successful applicant will be fluent in Spanish, will be knowledgeable in using databases available through Teachers College library services, and will possess excellent writing skills in combination with an ability to critically evaluate the selected literature. Hours are flexible, with periodic meetings on a weekly basis.

Compensation is $800 stipend and 1 tuition point, each semester
